Trip Report January 2013

What better way to ring in 2013 and celebrate a birthday than with a quick trip to the happiest place on earth? A few days after New Year’s, the whole family hopped in the car before dawn and made a quick (ok it was 6 hours, but who’s counting) trip to Anaheim. All right everybody, here we go!

After grabbing tickets for Mom & Dad (their Christmas gift), we started a leisurely stroll down Mainstreet, U.S.A.

Main Street Arcade by 2 Miss MousesAfter resisting the “Forbidden Sweets” for now…we decided to play a few arcade games. First up the Kiss-o-meter.

We were starving after the drive, so we decided to go to Jolly Holiday Bakery and pick up some sandwiches. I got the turkey and it was reaaaaallly good and the house chips were practically perfect in every way.

We took this trip for a special reason…to celebrate Hayley’s birthday! She’s always wanted a pair of sequin Minnie ears, so we decided to make her dream come true with a quick stop @ the Mad Hatter’s.

When we mentioned to the nice lady at the counter that it was Hayley’s birthday, she grabbed out this special birthday button. How Disney is that!?

Tip: if you’re celebrating a special occasion (birthday, engagement, 1st trip) stop by Town Hall on Mainstreet and get a button. There’s something so magical about everybody saying happy birthday to you. Hayley loved it. Time for more rides…It’s a Small World. The holiday overlay was still up- lucky us

Snow White’s Scary Adventure, confession- I am still freaked out by this ride and scream everytime!

After hanging around Fantasyland and grabbing some fastpasses, we went to one of our favorite places:

Plaza Inn by 2 Miss Mouses

We are obsessed with the fried chicken @ the Plaza Inn and it’s totally big enough to share.

After filling ourselves to the gills, we wanted to go ride the teacups, but then we thought better of it and just hammed it up in the stationary cup outside the Mad Hatter’s

Normally, we watch fireworks from in front of the castle, but this time we viewed them from behind the castle right next to Dumbo. It was really cool to see them from this new perspective. Plus, we were able to line up for reentry to Fantasyland and a quick ride on Peter Pan. Timothy Mouse approves!

DAY TWO: We decided to make an early start and head to Disney California Adventure hoping to bypass the super long line for Radiator Springs Racers. There’s an old Disney saying, “If you’re not there at rope drop then you’re late.” Well, we were late & unfortunately ran right into a 100 minute wait! Yikes!

Then…after waiting an hour and a half, the ride broke down for 45 minutes…This is not a happy mickey!

But at least the view was gorgeous!

I mean, come on, somebody built this- that’s some serious imagineering

After waiting 120 minutes in line, we decided it was definitely time for a churros- the breakfast of champions. You’ve got to try the churro bites @ Cozy Cones. They come with this cinnamon-chocolate dipping sauce. DANG!

We love the new Buena Vista Street and it was all decked out for the holidays

Time to enter Monstropolis. Monsters Inc. is one of our favorites. The line is never too long and it’s a classic dark ride with excellent design.

Even Roz got in the holiday mood-Holiday Roz @ Moster's Inc by 2 Miss Mouses

We made an impromptu reservation for Carthay Circle. The lunch menu is actually pretty reasonable & the space is just plain incredible. The Smores Bar/Dessert thingy-ma-bobber (not it’s actual name) was…more about that in another post 😉

We hung around Disney California for a few more hours and then went back to the hotel for a much needed “nap ride.” Then back to Disneyland for the evening.

Apparently, our father really enjoys photobombing-

DAY THREE: Mom & Dad only wanted to go to the park for 2 days, but Hayley and I have passports, so we decided to do an early morning/breakfast outing- just us sisters. We got on ever so many rides- 9 in the span of 2 hours!

Then breakfast @ the River Belle Terrace

I always get the Mark Twain (pancakes + bacon + eggs). When I was a kid, I didn’t know that it was named after the author and then one day somebody mentioned how great Mark Twain is and I said, “I know! It tastes soooo good!”

The day before, one of the CMs at Storybook Canals told us that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was about to be closed for an extended refurb. We decided we had to take one last ride before heading out.

We had an amazing trip and are so glad that you got to share it with us. So long for now, Disneyland. We’re missing you already!
